The landscape of software is changing. Independent freelance developers like me can do a lot more in less time with the advent of AI technology, but you need a developer who knows how to use the tools effectively and understands how to properly audit the code for quality and safety. I have developed software professionally for many years before AI code tools have existed, and I have been in charge of maintaining security and triaging vulnerability reports for software at scale.
Small, well-defined jobs are billed hourly. Anything with a clear scope I would rather quote as a fixed price, so you know the number before I start and I carry the risk of my own estimate. Ongoing work runs as a monthly retainer. If none of those fit what you are doing, say so - I would rather find an arrangement that works than turn away interesting work.

An app for personal use or a prototype. This is a great starting point if you have a requirement or idea and want to see concretely how far it gets to completion in a single "development sprint".
From idea to a deployed product.
A full build of a web application, from the first sketch through to something deployed, monitored, and handed over. Best when you know roughly what you want but need someone to actually make it exist.
Quoted after a scoping conversation. 50% up front, 50% on delivery.

Yes. A half-day of work is fine. Some of the best projects started as a two-hour fix.
Yes - if you use slack send me an invite. I am comfortable dropping into an existing codebase and process for code review, pairing, or just picking up tickets.
This is a common occurrence and it is absolutely fine. For fixed-price work I flag it as soon as I see it and we agree on the change before I build it. Nothing gets invoiced as a surprise.
